The Akita Inu is a giant breed from northern Japan’s mountains. Calm and reserved in appearance, they are large and powerful beneath thick fur and a curled tail. Loyal and affectionate with family, they are less welcoming to strangers or other animals. Without socialization or training, Akitas can be dangerous around people outside their circle. Extensive training reduces risks.
