The Caucasian Shepherd, or Caucasian Ovcharka, is a colossal breed that can weigh up to 200 pounds. For those unfamiliar with giant dogs, this size alone can be daunting. With proper guidance, however, this dog can become a devoted companion. Males live 10–12 years on average, and the breed hails from Russia and nearby European regions. Bred to guard and herd livestock, the Caucasian Shepherd is powerful and self-assured. Their size suits the job, but without training and socialization, they can become aggressive and dangerous.
