This might be the most creative broken taillight fix we have seen. Red duct tape is common, but this solution goes further. A red plastic bottle does cover the light, but it will not glow when the brakes come on. It will probably just confuse drivers.
The ingenuity deserves both praise and caution. Using a red bottle shows resourcefulness, but it is not safe. It shows how far people will go to appear compliant, even if the result is not legal. You can hear the logic: "It is red, it is translucent, it fits - good enough." Sometimes good intentions and sketchy fixes create the look of compliance without the safety.
